Links can be found in the right column on the main web page (available in HTML, PDF, and TeX formats): http://talug.org Please make sure you're looking at the current version. It should say "As of _February_ 2007". If it doesn't, clear your browser's cache and try retrieving it again. Voting instructions are on the website, but here they are again: Please vote on the proposed constitution by sending an email to talugvote@gmail.com with your full name and either "yes" or "no" in the body of the message. It would also be nice if you included the word "constitution" in the subject line. Voting is open through midnight (23:59:59) February 16, 2007. The votes will be tallied and the result announced at the meeting on Saturday, February 17th. It's *your* LUG, so voting is open to everyone receiving this message. We are asking for your name so we can have a list of the people who supported the constitution if it is ever called into question in the future. Think of yourself as a signatory. If there is something in the constitution that you do not agree with, it is your duty to vote "no". If the constitution fails to garner a majority of the votes cast then we will expect to receive a lot of constructive comments to address the problems. Assuming the constitution passes, the first elections will be scheduled and nominations may begin. Please recognize the importance of this step. We need your support to make this happen. Please vote. Thank you, Jason, Abdul, Adam, and the rest of the leadership team From jasonmbechtel at gmail.com Thu Feb 8 07:24:52 2007 From: jasonmbechtel at gmail.com (Jason Bechtel) Date: Thu Feb 8 07:25:00 2007 Subject: TALUG-board: Re: TALUG: Printing from the CLI In-Reply-To: <989440.2269.qm@web52714.mail.yahoo.com> References: <989440.2269.qm@web52714.mail.yahoo.com> Message-ID: Steve, The next meeting is planned for February 17th. I won't be able to be there because my parents will be in town visiting for the weekend, but I'm sure others will be there. As I've been wont to say in the past, *anyone* can be a contributor/presenter in TALUG. I say that because we are all learning little tidbits of information as we go along and wherever you are on the progression toward perfect knowledge (hah!), there is someone a couple steps behind you who could benefit from your insight. But beyond this generalization, I think that you, Steve, would make a great presenter for several reasons: 1) You are very good at laying out your situations and explaining how you went about finding the best solution, including the attempts that didn't quite make it and why. 2) You have the benefit of some significant experience (your cantenna project, your router, your graphical Linux workstation, your plain text printing solution), and yet you retain the perspective of the new Linux user. 3) You have good voice projection and are obviously a good speaker... You're a minister, right? So, yes, I think it would be of value and that many people would find it interesting to see how Linux can handle plain text files gracefully. And I think that it is precisely that perspective (computers as a tool) that will help you to connect with other Linux users. I would be grateful for your contribution at this month's meeting. Thank *you* for agreeing to do it! Jason On 2/7/07, mowestusa wrote: > Jason, > I believe I can make it to this months meeting if it > is plained for February 17th. (Plain Text Solutions) Message-ID: Hello, all. Due to various factors, including the weather and personal schedules, the meeting originally planned for this weekend (Saturday, February 17th) has been postponed until the following Saturday, February 24th. We will also wait to announce the results of the vote on the Constitution until that time. Since I never got around to announcing the meeting topic, I'll tell you now... Steve Daley has graciously volunteered to present his thoughts on what he calls "Plain Text Solutions". He describes it as a way to cross-platform, text-processing bliss. It will be a discussion on why Steve finds plain text to be the most practical medium for what he has to do and how he has solved various problems, such as printing and markup. If you are interested in learning the pragmatic reasons why Linux is so grounded in plain ASCII text files and how its many free text processing tools can work for you, this presentation could be an epiphany. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will see each other at Stautzenberger College Saturday next. ============================================ TALUG Meeting Announcement ============================================ Topics: Plain Text Solutions o text processing o markup o printing When: Saturday, February 24th 2:00pm - 5:00pm Where: Stautzenberger College 5355 Southwyck Blvd Toledo, OH 43614 Who: Presented by the Toledo Area Linux Users Group Open to the public *** Linux distributions on CD will *** *** be available FREE of charge! *** *** Be sure to request in advance: *** *** http://talug.org/freecds *** From jasonmbechtel at gmail.com Fri Feb 16 16:54:52 2007 From: jasonmbechtel at gmail.com (Jason Bechtel) Date: Fri Feb 16 16:54:59 2007 Subject: TALUG-board: Re: Voting Opened for Proposed Constitution In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Hey, all! If you plan on taking an active role in the LUG, this would be a good meeting to attend. *** Also, I burned a bunch of Linux liveCDs recently, so if you want to try out some of the latest liveCDs (with Beryl, for example), I'll have a number of them up for grabs.
