From qodsec2 at gmail.com Tue Mar 18 10:10:31 2008 From: qodsec2 at gmail.com (Abdulmajed Dakkak) Date: Tue Mar 18 10:10:50 2008 Subject: TALUG-board: March 29th TALUG Meeting Announcement --- Topic:Subversion Message-ID: ========================================================= TALUG Meeting Announcement ========================================================= Topics: Source Code Management With Subversion, Elections When: Saturday, March 29th, 2008 2:00pm - 5:00pm Where: The University of Toledo, College of Engineering Room: NE1026 Who: Presented by the Toledo Area Linux Users Group (TALUG) Open to the general public Details: (will also be available shortly on the TALUG website) If you were to ask me 10 years ago (OK, maybe someone older than me) what a good source code management system was, they would have said CVS. However, the reality was that CVS was the only open source solution for managing code. Another reality was that CVS sucked. In 2000, a group of people wrote Subversion (SVN) and its aim was to create a source code management system that behaved like CVS but did not .... um ... suck. "CVS done right" was their motto. Since then there have been many source code management systems; git, arch, bzr, mercurial(hg), .... to many to list. And much like distros, each had their own advantage. Some like darcs are interesting because they are written in weird language (haskell), others are interesting because they are written in few lines of code (mercurial), and some are *very* fast (git). What are source code management systems? How do you use them? Why would you use them? Which one should you use? Ian Wilson, who works for ColLab (the makers of SVN), will attempt to answer those questions on March 29th (2-5pm) at the University of Toledo Unix lab (NI1026). TALUG election results will also be presented at the meeting. The list of nominees are: President: Neal Dudley Vice President: Denny Pettee Secretary: Scott Vargovich Treasurer: Steve Tyrc *** Linux distributions on CD will be available FREE of charge. *** *** Request in advance! http://talug.org/index.php/free-cds *** -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
